Ending 2023 with a bang!

18th December 2023

At our institute, we always celebrate the end of the year with a fancy party ! It’s a way to thank everyone for their work and celebrate everyone’s achievements together! Plus a lot of fun :) This year the party was held at the beautiful Charterhouse just next to the BCI. And to end 2023 with a bang, our lab got 2 prizes: Postdoc of the year to Lisa and Outstanding Researcher to Susana! Looking forward to what 2024 will bring!

Well done Lisa!

10th November 2023

Congratulations to Lisa Donker who was awarded a prestigious 4-year Wellcome Trust Postdoc Fellowship to develop her project in our lab! We are so proud of her and can’t wait to see what her work on microtubules will unveil! Thanks to the Wellcome Trust for the support. Exciting times!

Thank you Maria!

3rd August 2023

We hate goodbyes, but it was time to say farewell to our amazing postdoc Maria Fankhaenel and to thank her for all the amazing work she did! It was also the opportunity to take one of our ‘best’ lab photos! The lab will not be the same without you but we wish you all the very best in this new chapter of your life and career! Danke Schoen!

Lab 10-year anniversary :)

6th-7th July 2023

And just like that our lab came of age! We turned 10! Feels like a big milestone and one we wanted to celebrate in style! Bringing back former colleagues, lots of fun and great science! We are so proud of everyone that is part of the lab’s journey! It was an emotional couple of days ;)

It’s accepted!

14th June 2023

Finally the news were were waiting for! Pedro, Bongwhan and Sam’s paper has been accepted at EMBO Journal! We describe a novel role for centrosome amplification in the regulation of intracellular organisation that occurs in response to changes in the microtubule cytoskeleton, namely tubulin acetylation! It turn out that these changes also promote nuclear deformability and migration through confined spaces. Time to celebrate all the hard work to get this manuscript over the line !

ladies and gentleman, Bongi’s viva!

24th February 2023

Congratulations to Bongwhan Yeon for passing his Viva with flying colours! Bongi is the 4th PhD student to graduate from the lab! Massive thanks to Mark Dodding and Tom Nightingale for brilliant examiners!

Congrats to Lisa Donker!

27th July 2022

Time to celebrate Lisa’s PhD work in Martin Gloerich’s lab getting accepted at Cell Reports! Well done Lisa!

it’s time to… graduate!

July, 2022

It is the most exciting time of the year when PhD students graduate! Congratulations to Sophie Adams who did her PhD with us and Maria Fankhaenel, now a postdoc in the lab, who did her PhD with Salah Elias at Southhampton University! We are so proud of them!

lab pin 2022

May, 2022

At our annual retreat this here we start a lab pin context, everyone design a lab pin and gave a 2 min presentation about their meaning. The unanimous winer was Maria’s design that we now all wear on our lanyards :)

Here’s Maria’s description: “This pin combines our passion for centrosomes, microtubules and microscopy. The colour blue is associated with open spaces, freedom, intuition, imagination, inspiration and sensitivity. The crescent represents the moon that brings you magical dreams and symbolises empowerment.”

trip to the bscb-bsdb conference

April, 2022

Our first lab trip to a conference after the pandemic! Another amazing meeting jointly organised by BSCB and BSDB at Warwick University: great science, new and old friends, great venue and disco night! And Maria took home the postdoc best poster prize! :)
